Smallest Baby Ever Born and Released From Louisiana Hospital Goes Home
We had a record-breaker yesterday and it was a beautiful thing.
Dionna Ambrielle Miracle Taylor was discharged from the Oschnser LSU Health Shreveport on Wednesday after spending exactly four months there since her birth.
She weighed just 11 ounces at birth. This makes her the smallest-ever baby to be born and discharged from a hospital in Louisiana.
For a reference, that's about the size of a human heart and lighter than a can of soda.
“We didn’t know if she was going to make it or not, but the good Lord had other plans and my baby’s here. So that’s why she’s my miracle baby,” her mother Penny Taylor said.
Dionna left the hospital yesterday dressed in a cap and gown for her graduation ceremony from the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The hospital says she tipped the scale at 4 pounds, 13 ounces when she was discharged.
There's even more good news. Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport NICU Medical Director Dr. Nitin Walyat says even though Dionna had some setbacks during her four months in the hospital, she's heading home without many of the developmental issues preemies face.
