Baton Rouge Pregnant Woman Dies from COVID-19, But Baby Successfully Delivered
A pregnant woman from Baton passed away on Thursday morning due to complications from COVID-19. However, doctors at Woman's Hospital were able to successfully deliver her two-pound baby via emergency C-section.
Allie Guidry was not due until October. Her family told WBRZ television in Baton Rouge that Guidry was hospitalized with the virus at the end of May. Unfortunately, she was placed on a ventilator a few weeks ago and didn't get better.
Allie Guidry was engaged to be married to her fiance Michael Conish and both lived in Baton Rouge.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family with funeral expenses along with medical bills the family will continue to accrue while the baby is in NICU.
"We'd like people to know to take this virus seriously," Guidry's mom, Denise said. "But do not stop living your life. Be cautious. Be careful. It's no joke."
The family is asking for prayers and says the baby is in stable condition right now in NICU at Woman's Hospital.
