Sports Betting: Cause for Bipartisan Post-Election Day Celebration
Regardless of which party you claim, we all should be celebrating legal sports betting in Louisiana.
While everyone on your Facebook page is arguing over the Presidential election, I think it's time for us to unite and applaud Louisiana voters for getting this measure right. As many of you know, one of the biggest measures presented to voters in Louisiana on our ballots yesterday was the legalization of sports betting. This is a no-brainer, as most in our state who wish to bet on sports simply find a way to do it anyway, all while our state reaps none of the monetary benefits. Soon, that will come to an end for most parishes in Louisiana, and our communities should be celebrating.
Out of our state's 64 parishes, 55 voted to approve legal sports betting. Over 65% of Louisianans who turned in their ballot gave a big thumbs up to the measure, and now, it's time to lay the groundwork.
Lawmakers and our gaming control board will now aim to establish the rules and regulations for the parishes who approved the measure to follow.
You can expect these rules, regulations, and tax information to be introduced as legislation in the 2021 legislative session.
This is a big, big win for our state and our communities. A Louisiana Economic Development Department study found that the state is losing as much as 330 million dollars in taxable revenue by not allowing legalized sports wagering.
While our communities may be butting heads in regards to the Presidential race, it's nice to have a win that we all can easily support and get behind.
