Springhill’s Devin White Turns in Dominant Super Bowl Performance
If you're a LSU fan, last night's Super Bowl was a fun game to watch. There were Tigers all over the field; from Leonard Fornette to the Honey Badger to Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU was represented all over the place. However, one player that maybe had the biggest impact on the game outside of Tom Brady is former Tiger and Springhill native Devin White.
White is widely considered one of the best inside linebackers in football and last night he showed that on the biggest stage of them all. Against one of the most potent offenses in the NFL, White put up some staggering numbers.
Devin finished the game with 8 solo tackles (12 combined), 2 tackles for loss, several QB hits/pressures, a pass defensed and a game sealing interception. Tampa Bay's defense is one of the best in the NFL, but our local boy Devin White is one of the major driving forces in why they're so good.
During his rookie season, he was passed over for Defensive Rookie of the Year. This year, despite being one of the NFL's top tacklers, he didn't even get looked at for Defensive Player of the year. However, after last night's performance, Devin White will not be denied and that he will get plenty of hardware before he retires. I know Tom Brady won Super Bowl MVP but Tampa's defense, led by White, were the real MVPs of the game.
