If you’ve been reading the site for any length of time, then you know that movie-themed amusement park rides are a bit of a passion for Editor-in-Chief Matt Singer. Matt has previously written about the end of the Great Movie Ride and run pieces on the upcoming Avatar amusement park as well; that, combined with his love of all things Terminator 2, means that he should probably be the one to write up this news item. But since he’s not here and I am, I guess I’ll deliver the bad news: the Terminator 2 3D ride is being shut down.

It just wouldn’t be Hollywood without directors of massively successful movies talking jive about other directors’ massively successful movies. James Cameron is the latest offender, offering up some boiling hot takes about Patty Jenkins’ summer hit Wonder Woman. Apparently, it wasn’t feminist enough for ol’ James.

Josh Brolin is the type of guy who’s not easily persuaded. If you invite him to brunch and he doesn’t want to go, just drop it. If you offer him a Coke when he says he’s not thirsty, just walk away, the man isn’t thirsty! And if you want him to star in your sequel about blue aliens and he turns you down, rest your case. You’re not going to change his mind, even if you’re James Cameron.

The next of James Cameron’s Avatar sequels are officially off and rolling, with visual effects production in full swing today at the Oscar-winning Weta Digital in New Zealand. Cameron changed the game for movies that heavily feature visual effects and performance capture, paving the way for films like Luc Besson’s Valerian and the new Planet of the Apes trilogy. Funny enough, Weta is getting an assist this time around from motion capture tech used in War for the Planet of the Apes.

It’s a rare thing in Hollywood for a sequel to come close to, or even end up being better than, the original, but James Cameron effortlessly managed that feat with 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The film sees Arnold Schwarzenegger return as the sinister Terminator android, but this time around his intentions are much more heroic. If you’ve been itching to watch this movie on the big screen in as immersive an experience as possible, Cameron and co. have cooked up a re-release of the movie in his new favorite medium: 3-D.

James Cameron is the kind of director who likes to revolutionize the industry he works in whenever he makes a movie. Shot entirely in a new format of 3-D motion-capture, his Avatar wowed audiences with its visual style and groundbreaking effects, and Cameron is poised to do it again. He announced today that Avatar 2 will be projected in 3-D, but audiences won’t need their glasses.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He’ll Appear in the Next ‘Terminator’ Movie
Throughout the years, the one constant in the Terminator franchise has been Arnold Schwarzenegger. Even after director James Cameron quit the franchise, Schwarzenegger kept on chugging along, appearing in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machine, Terminator Genisys, and even having his likeness pop up in Terminator Salvation while he was still the governor of California. So with the news that James Cameron would be taking the helm of the franchise again after Genisys flopped, fans have been wondering if the actor had one last showing in him as everyone’s favorite compassionate death machine.

Ridley Scott Claims Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien 5’ Never Even Had a Script
In hindsight, it seems kind of odd that we had two directors competing to make movies in the same franchise. Back in 2015, director Neill Blomkamp sort of bull-rushed Hollywood by releasing concept art from the Alien 5 sequel he had been working on for 20th Century Fox. This was despite the fact that Ridley Scott had already made Prometheus  —  a direct prequel to the events of the Alien universe  —  and was working on what would later become Alien: Covenant. After months of rumors and Blomkamp’s promise to bring back a few beloved characters, the project petered out, and Scott emerged the sole proprietor of the Alien franchise.

With James Cameron caught in an endless loop of Avatar rumors and delays, it’s become fashionable for some fans to treat the director like a Hollywood has-been. I don’t get it. Even if you think the original Avatar is a hollow mess of special effects, it’s still a fun entry in Cameron’s ‘Soldiers vs. Monsters’ filmography. Are we so awash in incredible action directors that we can afford to dismiss Cameron’s eye for spectacle and clean action scenes? I think not.
