Last week a bill was passed in the State Senate of Texas that would outright ban the sale of all THC products, including strains of the compound that became federally legal in 2018. With Texas pushing to ban THC despite a booming industry around the product, could Louisiana follow suit?

Louisiana Accidentally Legalized High Times

In 2018 a bill was passed at the federal level that made the sale of certain THC strains, from hemp flower, legal up to a certain amount, and in following suit states created their own laws to regulate the newly born industry of THC products available over the counter, and not out back next to a weird dumpster.

Louisiana approved the sale of THC products in 2018 by a simple mistake. Lawmakers proposed a law that would allow what they believed to be such a small amount of THC it would take too much effort to get a high from any product, evidently if you've simply walked past a gas station with bright "DELTA-8 SOLD HERE" signs then it's easy to realize the amount they set was not low enough.

Would Louisiana Lawmakers Ban THC?

Last year at least one lawmaker in the state of Louisiana had backed a plan to ban the sale of all THC, just like Texas is attempting to do. But this plan did not pass as other lawmakers compromised a new set of restrictions on the THC industry, and that's just the over-the-counter hemp THC industry, Louisiana's proper medical marijuana system has existed for years just as it is.

Louisiana's new restrictions ban THC products from being sold in gas stations as well as reducing the maximum amount allowed in beverages and edibles. With the industry having avoided an outright ban last year, and the real deal medical marijuana industry marching on in the state, it's not likely Louisiana will be joining Texas in banning high times just yet.
