Over the weekend I found myself in unfamiliar territory - the entire family had a clear schedule.  I know that may sound like a small win, but for us - it's huge.  We found ourselves with an entire day to spend together without the constraints of work, school, soccer, or any other activity that would normally keep the whole clan from doing something together.  I asked my Facebook friends where I could take the crew for some family bonding time within an hour of Shreveport/Bossier City, and the suggestion that stuck out the most was Gators & Friends in Greenwood.  It was exactly what we were looking for.

There are lots of interesting creatures on site.  Gators & Friends have ring-tailed lemurs like the ones in Madagascar (the movie and the island), several native and non-native deer species, emus, an ostrich, a capybara, pygmy goats, and some really weird looking animals - like this Scottish Highland cow:

And this thing, which was labeled a "Jacob's Sheep," but I'm pretty sure was Satan:

To make it even cooler, you can totally feed most of the residents there (not the gators)!

By far, the biggest deal was the gators.  I thought that they would have an enclosure with gators in it.  As it turns out, they have an enclosure for the people - and the gators are everywhere else!

There was so much more there to do than we had time for.  The arcade was awesome - they even have a giant, 2-player, Mario Cart!  They also have real go-carts so serious, you have to wear race helmets!  The craziest thing I saw was the zip lines that race you over the gator area.  Like, right over the water where Godzilla's Cajun cousins are cruising for their next meal!
