From Film Prize to Feature Film: “The Twin” Is A Thriller for Shreveport
A new dawn is on the horizon for Shreveport to reclaim its title as Hollywood South, and The Twin just proved why. A new psychological thriller movie filmed right here in the 318 has already scored two awards and proven why Shreveport's movie culture has a bright future ahead and a vibrant past behind it.
Shreveport's Short Film to Silver Screen
Louisiana Film Prize has ingrained itself as part of Shreveport's culture over the past 10 years of its existence. It was at the 2016 LFP that a short film named "Hangman" made its debut, a creation of J.C. Doler, a filmmaker who would move to Shreveport for the growing movie culture.
Over the years, the story for "Hangman" was rewritten and retooled into a new script that earned the title of The Twin. J.C. and his supporters raised nearly half a million dollars to take what was once a short film made for less than $1,000 into a full-length feature.
The Twin is a psychological thriller with tense emotion and grounded characters caught up in the clutches of an ancient monster from Irish folklore, with a strong message about the importance of mental health.
Shreveport's Cinema Future: Hollywood South
To see how Shreveport has been impacted by Film Prize, it's heartwarming to see a short film that had its first screening here in the city grow and mature into a full feature film with a deserving red carpet premiere at The Strand. That feeling gets stronger when you see the movie has two awards and an 8.1/10 rating from critics already.
The movie is available to digitally purchase or rent through platforms like Amazon Video, Google Play, and iTunes, while a premiere on the Shudder streaming service is expected in the Fall.
At one point in the mid 2000s Shreveport was a hub for movies looking for an afforadble place to shoot, even one's that weren't so good. In recent years the number of big budget projects in the area has fallen off, but with The Twin getting a full feature release and 50 Cent's new G-Unit investment in the city a new boom for Hollywood South could be on the horizon.
