Trump To Ban Downloads Of TikTok and WeChat In The US Starting Sunday
Starting this Sunday (Sept. 20) TikTok will disappear from your app store.
According to an order published by the US Department of Commerce, TikTok will be "barred from software updates and distribution in the US." The Trump administration has alluded to restricting the wildly popular app due to security concerns and now we're seeing definitive action.
Today's actions prove once again that President Trump will do everything in his power to guarantee our national security and protect Americans from the threats of the Chinese Communist Party. At the President's direction, we have taken significant action to combat China's malicious collection of American citizens' personal data, while promoting our national values, democratic rules-based norms, and aggressive enforcement of U.S. laws and regulations.
There is no word on what that means for users that currently have the app, but it is assumed that there will be no updates to the app with the new restrictions in place. There may also be further restrictions on the horizon, "including against other apps" that may be seen as a security threat.
Reps for Apple and Google have no responded to the restrictions but we will update this story as it develops.
