My, how times have changed. If you had read the headline, "When Will Gas Prices Top $5 A Gallon In Shreveport?" just a couple of years ago, you might have chuckled.

However, that previously laughable thought, is not only possible, but it's become probable. Sobering isn't it?

Yesterday, June 8, CBS News quoted a tweet from Patrick De Haan, the Gas Buddy Guy, that showed they had modified their original thoughts regarding when the national average gasoline price would hit $5.00 per gallon. Their new prediction was that it would hit that monstrous figure tomorrow, June 10.

While, here in Louisiana, our inclination might be to make the mistake of believing that our local prices could never soar so high, we should probably prepare for what some would deem "the inevitable."

Considering that as of today, the average price for gasoline in Louisiana is $4.50 per gallon, according to gasprices.aaa.com, we could very well be on the cusp of seeing $5 gas in the coming days ourselves.

To throw a little salt in the wound, one year ago today, on June 9, 2021, the average price for gas was only $2.71 a gallon.

Who's Paying The Most Here In North Louisiana?

In the graphic above from gasprices.aaa.com, we found the average price for gas in Bossier Parish was the cheapest around, but at an average of $4.51 per gallon, "cheap" isn't such a fitting term.

  • The current average in Caddo Parish is $4.52 a gallon
  • The current average in Webster Parish is $4.61 a gallon
  • The current average in DeSoto Parish is $4.63 a gallon
  • The current average in Red River Parish is $4.65 a gallon
  • The current average in Bienville Parish is $4.66 a gallon

Of course these are all averages, so there are some places in each parish that offer prices substantially lower than the average.

I guess we should feel somewhat thankful here in our area as the average price for gas down in Cameron Parish is already $4.92 per gallon.

Where Is The Cheapest Gas In Shreveport And Bossier?

Locally, according to Gas Buddy, Sam's Club on Beene Boulevard in Bossier City is the cheapest place to go with gas at $4.29 per gallon.  (Personal note here: If you're going, prepare for possibly long lines and make sure your vehicle is in the proper lane determined by the side of your vehicle where the gas tank is located. Otherwise, the Sam's Club Police Lady will send you away empty handed)
