The reason why some people are frightened by Friday the 13th is because of a phobia called friggatriskaidekaphobia and paraskevidekatriaphobia. Yeah, try saying that 3 times really fast.

The unique thing about the fear of this specific day is that no one knows why we fear it, but that the fear is real. Some say that people are just scared of the number of the day.

However National Geographic says it goes back to religion.

"The trepidation surrounding Friday the 13th is rooted in religious beliefs surrounding the 13th guest at the Last Supper-Judas, the apostle said to have betrayed Jesus-and the crucifixion of Jesus on a Friday, which was known as hangman's day and was already a source of anxiety," according to National Geographic.

National Geographic also says that there is history in the number 12 and how that number is complete. They explain this by mentioning that there is 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 tribes of Israel, and 12 apostles of Jesus. This number is "complete".

According to Live Science, between 9 and 13 percent of the adult U.S. population believes Friday the 13th is a truly unlucky day.

However other countries in the world see 13 as a lucky number like Italy, Egypt and China.
