To say that the amount of economic good news about Louisiana is sparse would be a monumental understatement.  It seems like every week a new report or study comes out that paints our fair state in a less-than-financially-successful light.  That's why the latest data coming in from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Development is encouraging - we did so good!

The new numbers show that in the first two quarters of 2018, the Bayou State had the second-highest personal income growth in the country.  The only state that was ahead of Louisiana was Texas.  The Lone Star State clocked in an impressive 6% growth, but that's barely ahead of the 5.9% that Louisiana posted.

According to FOX8, here's where the growth came from:

  • Construction: $401 million in total growth
  • Professional, scientific, and technical services: $284 million in total growth
  • Healthcare and social assistance: $270 million in total growth
  • Manufacturing: $259 million in total growth
  • Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction: $231 million in total growth

Check out how we fared against the rest of the country below.
