‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel May Be Spidey’s Last Appearance in the MCU

The deal between Marvel and Sony that allowed Peter Parker to join up with the Avengers is actually kind of extraordinary. More often than not — all the time, really — studios jealously hold tight to their superhero properties, often, as with Fantastic Four, making movies just so they can keep the rights. But Spider-Man allowed two studios to co-parent a character, allowing Spidey and other Avengers to ping-pong between movie universes, appearing in both. That deal seems like it may be up in the air after whatever follows Spider-Man: Homecoming.

New ‘It’ Images Feature a Red Balloon and a Bunch of Terrified Kids

The ’80s nostalgia continues with the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s 1986 novel It, about an evil sewer clown that terrorizes the small town of Derry, Maine. The movie is actually just Part 1 of the story, as, like the novel, the new film will be split into two sections: the first occurs during the main characters’ childhood, and the second comes 30 years later, with the return of the creature that appears every three decades. The film debuted three new images today, showcasing our team of young heroes and red balloon-toting Pennywise the clown.

Starz ‘American Gods’ Invites You to Worship These New Cast Posters

The jury’s still out on whether Starz and Bryan Fuller’s American Gods can translate author Neil Gaiman’s bestseller, but my, if they don’t at least make a pretty cast. See for yourself in a new gallery of posters for the April premiere, featuring Shadow Moon, Bilquis, Mr. World and more.

Rhett Reese Thinks It’d Be Fun for Hugh Jackman to Cameo in ‘Deadpool 2’

Every time an actor says they’re retiring, or quitting, or done playing a role, there’s always some speculation that they’ll come back once the stars align. Sometimes that works, like how Hayao Miyazaki has claimed he’s retiring at least three times before making a grand return some months later. Hugh Jackman told everyone, and continues to tell everyone, that Logan is his last-ever appearance as Wolverine, but that hasn’t stopped some from trying to figure out ways in which he could be finagled into future X-Men movies.

Weekend Box Office Report: ‘Power Rangers’ Is No Match for Beauties or Beasts

After several weeks of limited movement, a handful of new releases prompted a pretty thorough shakeup of the Box Office Top 10. While Beauty and the Beast continued its unstoppable assault on the domestic box office, we also said hello this weekend to three new movies and goodbye to a handful of old favorites from the first few months of the year. Let’s start with the estimated numbers as of Sunday afternoon.

Javier Bardem Vows Revenge in the Latest ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ Trailer

Disney
The smartest thing that the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise ever did was introduce a revolving door of ghost pirate enemies. I don’t really care why Javier Bardem’s character hates Jack Sparrow, nor do I think for a moment that this is the film that will permanently kill Johnny Depp’s character off for good, but those plots points are secondary, the franchise’s equivalent of a ghost McGuffin (a McGhostin?). All I really care about is seeing charismatic actors like Bardem play campy villains.

‘Deadpool 2’ Screenwriters on Potential Release Dates: ‘No One Will Want to Come Out the Same Weekend’

Anyone who ever scrolls through the occasional Business Insider article knows that disruptors  —  companies that enter a marketplace and change the way people do business  —  don’t stay disruptors for very long. Take an organization like Uber. For years, Uber was the scrappy little underdog, a technology startup that used technology to upend the established taxi market. In the past few years, however, Uber has gone from the underdog to the dominant player, the company that other technology startups are looking to take down. Success breeds imitation, and imitation breeds improvement.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Will Not Be Changed Due to Carrie Fisher’s Death

Though it felt kind of wrong, when Carrie Fisher died in December a lot of us wondered how the Star Wars movies would weather her loss. Had she finished shooting all her scenes? (She had, at least for Episode 8.) How integral to the plot of Episodes 8 and 9 was Leia going to be? Would the story need to be changed to accommodate for her absence? Some wondered if her likeness would be Tarkin’d onto a body stand-in for the final movie, which felt wrong even to think about. (It’s not happening, thankfully.) Lucasfilm has a lot to consider after losing one of its biggest stars, but it sounds like none of The Last Jedi is going to be changed because of her death.

Amy Schumer Drops Out of Sony and Mattel’s ‘Barbie’ Movie

Sony and Mattel’s Barbie movie has hit snag after snag pretty much since its inception. At first, Diablo Cody was signed on to write the screenplay before tossing out her version in favor of competing three other writers against each other. Sony chose the winner and Amy Schumer joined the film to star (after a few touch-ups to the screenplay), but today she announced that, due to scheduling problems, she won’t be playing the iconic doll after all.

‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ IMAX Poster Ties Robots in With Arthurian Legend

Somehow, Transformers: The Last Knight is going to show us how our favorite robots in disguise have been around Earth since the Middle Ages, and even how they led King Arthur’s armies into battle. (Has anyone told Michael Bay yet that King Arthur wasn’t real? No? Okay, just checking.) It’s sure to be quite the experience, and as Bay’s last go-round with the Transformers universe, he’s making sure to fit just about everything into this movie.

L.A. Movie Theater Is Handing Out Barf Bags at French Cannibal Coming-of-Age Movie ‘Raw’

Julia Ducournau’s French cannibal coming-of-age movie (no, I didn’t think I’d ever type that phrase either) Raw has been making waves ever since its Cannes debut last year, and a lot of those waves happen to be those of nausea. The film reportedly features so many scenes of gory flesh-eating that it caused audience members to feel physically ill and faint at numerous festival screenings. Now that it’s out in theaters in a limited release, one theater in Los Angeles has a solution: personal barf bags.
