J.K. Rowling Writes to Girl Whose Family Was Murdered

Cassidy Stay is 15 years old from Houston, TX.

Last month, Cassidy's entire family was murdered by her Uncle. She lost her mom, dad, and four siblings.

Cassidy herself was shot in the head, but managed to survive by pretending to be dead.

The story is absolutely heart-breaking.

At the memorial for her family, she mustered up the courage to stand up and speak in front of the crowd. Her speech and overall attitude was beyond encouraging. She even took the time to quote a well-known line from ""Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban".

She used Dumbledore's quote, "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." She added, "I know that my [family is] in a much better place and that I'll be able to see them again one day."

Someone set up a Facebook page with the goal of somehow getting J.K. Rowling to meet Cassidy.

We're not sure if the two have met yet, but can confirm that Cassidy received a letter from J.K. Rowling. She wrote the letter as Dumbledore in purple ink directly from Hogwarts. Cassidy also received an acceptance letter from Hogwarts, a wand, and an autographed copy of "Prisoner of Azkaban".
