As of last year, Louisiana is the #1 state in the nation when it comes to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.  I'm not sure what it is, but the Bayou State excels at spreading the nasty and there's no denying it. In light of the fact that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has declared this STD Awareness Month, Louisiana has decided to do something about it.

In order to bring this situation under control, the state has stepped up efforts to combat this burning issue by offering free testing for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and other common sexually transmitted diseases this week.  According to US News, the free testing will be offered on a different day of the week depending upon where you live - beginning this Tuesday with the Houma, Lafayette and Lake Charles health units taking the lead.  On Wednesday, locations in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Alexandria will follow suit. Shreveport, Monroe and Hammond health units will conduct the free testing on Thursday.

The testing will help bring peace of mind to anyone who is unsure of their current status.  If you would like to schedule an appointment for testing, please contact your local parish health unit.
