The ever-evolving Netflix model makes it difficult to discern viewer data, let alone interpret what tidbits the company confirms. That said, Netflix has been studying “binge racers” who finish seasons within twenty-four hours of their debut, and you might be surprised by the highs and lows.
It’s admittedly rare of Netflix to pull the plug on original series after one season, but with recent cuts like The Get Down (and potentially Sense8), the safety … well, net might finally have holes. According to a new interview with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, the streaming service might be getting a bit more strict with its renewals.
FXX favorite and critical darling You’re the Worst won’t continue its worst impulses for Season 3 until late August, but that isn’t stopping the series from a timely addition. Lest you think Piper was ever getting out of prison, Netflix has added three more terms to her sentence. That’s right, Orange is the New Black has been renewed for three more seasons, locking down the ladies of Litchfield through 2019 with Seasons 5, 6 and 7.
As expected, there’s lots of big news coming from Netflix ahead of their panel at TCA ’16, and in addition to finally renewing Marvel’s Jessica Jones for Season 2, the streaming service has set a return date for Orange Is the New Black Season 4. We’re sure to learn more about the coming season once the panel commences, but expect our return to Litchfield to resolve a few of those lingering cliffhangers.
