1000+ Louisiana Kindergartners Suspended From School in 2019
A shocking new report from the Louisiana Department of Education showed that Louisiana administrators suspended 1,260 students in preschool, pre-K and kindergarten during the 2018-2019 school year.
KSLA broke down the numbers in their latest expose on Louisiana schools "Code of Conduct." The most common reasons for sending the youngest of school age kids home ranged from defiance to damaging school property to disrespecting authority figures.
Some opponents claim that this is due to a lack of an in-school option for punishment, and sending kids home in numbers this high creates more problems than it solves. Members of the Louisiana Department of Education’s Advisory Council on Student Behavior and Discipline (ACSBD) claim that suspending kids under the age of 10, "creates a psychological makeup that doesn’t allow that child to become a successful adult.”
The report claims that 200+ students younger than 3rd grade were suspended in Caddo Parish last school year.
