Tropical Storm Cristobal made landfall on Louisiana's coast about 5 pm Sunday afternoon. The exact spot where the center of circulation of the storm crossed the coast is estimated to be somewhere east of Grand Isle and west of the Mouth of the Mississippi River.

At the time of landfall, the storm was producing sustained winds between 35 mph and 45 mph with some gusts in excess of 60 mph reported. Forecasters with the National Weather Service said the storm was expected to produce as much as six inches of rainfall over most of the southeastern corner of the state with some local amounts reporting higher totals.

Grand Isle was one of the hardest-hit areas of the state. Louisiana's barrier island sustained some storm surge flooding as well as the heavy rainfall. These aerial videos were posted to Facebook by Kyla D. Dufrene.

Conditions across the state should continue to improve today as Cristobal is forecast to weaken and move northward out of the area.

Late Friday night it was reported that two swimmers off of Grand Isle lost their lives when they were pulled under because of a rip current. Two others had to be airlifted to a New Orleans area hospital where they are both expected to make a full recovery.
