There are a handful of famous faces that call Bossier City their hometown, but did you know one of them was a WWE superstar? Alex "The Pug" Pourteau is an accomplished professional wrestler with several championship belts to his name, who hails, at least originally, from Bossier City, Louisiana.

The Pug made a name for himself and stuck in the heads of many fans, but many locals might not know about Bossier City's Brawler.

Bossier City Roots

Alex Pourteau was born in Bossier City, Louisiana, on October 30th, 1969. During the heyday of the wrestling territories era, Mid-South Wrestling dominated North Louisiana as the No. 1 wrestling company.

Alex grew up watching MSW shows in Shreveport at the legendary Hirsch Coliseum and found himself in awe of the legendary, controversial, and undoubtedly ancient character of Jim Cornette. Alex Pourteau was trained by Mid-South mainstays Jim Starr and Skandor Akbar in the mid-80s before kicking off his career.

From Rookie to Champion: Alex Pourteau's Path in Pro Wrestling

Alex made his debut in 1988 for World Class Championship Wrestling in a match against Al Perez. Pourteau wouldn't take home a wrestling win until his 14th pro-wrestling match in a tag team with Tony Anthony named The Dirty White Boys. During his early career, Alex crossed paths with legendary names in the wrestling business, including The Midnight Express (including Alex's idol Jim Cornette), The Great Muta, Kevin Sullivan, Lex Luger, The Iron Sheik, Ron Simmons, Cactus Jack, and Booker T.

From 1991 to 2001, Alex solidified his place in the history books of wrestling with a combined 205 days as GWF Light Heavyweight Champion over four different reigns, 21 days as WWC Television Champion, and his first championship was in 1991 as the WWC Junior Heavyweight Champion.

Pourteau joined WWE (then the WWF) in 1996, though he mostly found himself on the losing end of most of his matches. Pourteau spent the next few years hopping around before spending two months with Frontier Martial Arts in Japan, and then back to WWC in Puerto Rico before landing in Florida, where he remains today.

His last match was in 2018, and since then, he has started the Pro Wrestling 2.0 training school in Florida.
