I have seen several people on my Facebook concerned about the air quality with the winds that will bring Saharan dust into the South. Turns out the concerns are valid and we should be very careful especially if we have respiratory issues. The dust is making it's way into Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, and Shreveport on Tuesday 07/17/18. Barksdale Air Force Base took to Facebook to warn all citizens with a respiratory issue.

"ALERT From the 2nd Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental Flight:
Today through Wednesday, active children and adults, the elderly, and people with respiratory diseases such as asthma should avoid prolonged outdoor activities and exertion. DEQ is forecasting an Ozone Action Day for Caddo, Bossier and Desoto parishes. The weather conditions will be favorable for the formation of ozone. Monday through Wednesday, light to moderate westerly to southwesterly winds will bring a large plume of Saharan dust into the state, increasing particle concentrations. In addition, pollutant carryover from day to day will be high. As a result, AQI levels will be high-Moderate in most locations, with an AQI level of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, and Shreveport on Tuesday and Wednesday. Increasing ozone levels may cause unhealthy air quality during afternoon hours."
