Bossier City has a huge reason to celebrate! Our very own Bossier City Animal Shelter has officially achieved "No-Kill" status, a remarkable designation awarded by the Best Friends Animal Society. This incredible accomplishment is a direct result of Bossier residents truly stepping up and making a profound difference in the lives of local animals.

How Did the Bossier Shelter Achieve This Status?

To earn the "No-Kill" designation, a shelter must achieve a 90% save rate consecutively for an entire year, as mandated by Best Friends Animal Society. This crucial metric accounts for the approximate 10% of animals entering shelters who, due to severe medical or behavioral issues, require humane euthanasia, never because of a lack of space. As the BFAS website highlights, "Nearly 2 out of 3 shelters achieved no-kill last year, and our goal is to get to 100%." Yet, the sobering reality remains that "every 90 seconds a dog or cat is killed in a U.S. shelter simply because they don’t have a safe place to call home." This is a solvable issue, and Bossier City's achievement is a testament to being part of that vital solution.
