Cameron Parish Prepped For Hurricane Barry With Booze
As Tropical Storm Barry was ramping up in the Gulf, strengthening to Hurricane levels before making landfall, Louisiana residents were preparing. Some were boarding up windows, others packing for evacuation, and some were hitting the liquor isles at the store.
When KPLC was calling stores across Southern Louisiana to find out what items were moving off shelves, they were asking about many items. One of the things they made sure to ask about, was alcohol sales. According to their report, most stores said alcohol sales were flat, or slightly up. However in Cameron Parish, alcohol sales were way up. In fact, KPLC says some stores alcohol sales tripled leading up to the storm's landfall.
Parts of Cameron Parish held multiple different watches and warnings as the storm grew in the Gulf, so residents expected they would see some form of impact. But many seem to have been taking a “hurrication” approach to the storm.
