The men and women who are the citizen soldiers of Louisiana's National Guard are once again standing at the ready to aid our state's citizens before, during, and after Tropical Storm Barry. Yesterday it was announced that Governor Edwards has been authorized to activate up to 3,000 guardsmen and airmen should that be necessary.

Among the preparations, National Guard officials are staging of high water vehicles, boats, and other essential equipment at various locations around South Louisiana. The Guard is also staging drinking water and other provisions in the areas of the state most likely to be affected by the storm.

Currently, school buses from St. Landry Parish have been staged at the Lafayette Airport. Other buses have been staged at the Lamar-Dixon Complex in Gonzales. Should they be needed these buses will transport Guardsmen and other key personnel and equipment into storm-damaged areas if necessary.
