CAREN Act Aiming to Outlaw Racially Motivated 911 Calls
Many of us are guilty of using the name Karen to describe an angry woman at a grocery store. Yes, now is a time to check on all of our friends named Karen, they could really use a few bottles of wine right about now. We seem to blame Karen's and COVID-19 for everything these days.
A lawmaker in California wants to crack down on racially motivated calls. The Caution Against Racially Exploitative Non-Emergencies or CAREN Act has a dream. The dream is to see fewer people calling authorities on people of color. The CAREN Act is clearly a play on the name Karen, and many find it funny. On Tuesday, Supervisor Shamann Walton introduced the CAREN Act and took to his Twitter to explain why.
"Racist 911 calls are unacceptable that's why I'm introducing the CAREN Act at today’s SF Board of Supervisors meeting. This is the CAREN we need. Caution Against Racially Exploitative Non-Emergencies. #CARENact #sanfrancisco"#CARENact#sanfrancisco
