With all that's happened over the last year, it's more important than ever to serve our community.  Today (Martin Luther King Jr. Day) is a great day to focus on acts of service to our community.  This is the only federal holiday on our calendar that is designated as a "day on" instead of a "day off."

Traditionally, we mark the life of Dr. King by volunteering or donating to an organization that betters the place where we live.  If you have kids, it's a wonderful opportunity to teach them about the fight for racial equality as well as how to help those that are struggling in an effort to make that equality a reality.  In the words of Dr. King himself: "Everybody can be great because everybody can serve."

Locally, there are tons of organizations that could use your help.  From sewing masks to delivering food - there is something each and every one of us can do to make this a better place to live.  I like the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank, but Volunteermatch.org actually has a searchable database of charities and organizations that would love to have your help - check it out here.

If you are looking for more motivation, here is the speech that does it for me every time.
