Experts are Warning Parents About the Color of Your Children's Swimsuits
Before you go out and purchase your child's swimsuit, there is one thing that several parents need to keep in mind. The color of swimsuit. Before you brush it off, know that this has to do with your child's safety.
CNN published an article in June of 2024 that alerted several parents. A company called Alive Solutions figured out which colors can play a serious role in your child's safety while swimming. Alive Solutions conducted two experiments, and in both experiments, they found that certain swimsuit colors are much easier to see in open water, such as a lake or the beach. "In tests, the company’s water safety experts placed swimsuits of various colors in swimming pools and lakes to determine how visible they may be." It was then that they found out how dangerous certain colors can be.
If your child needs help in a pool or lake they may go unnoticed if they are in danger because they are harder to spot. Bernard Fisher, the director of health and safety for the American Lifeguard Association, told CNN, “People should avoid swimsuits in light blue, gray, or green as they can blend with the water and pool surroundings, making it difficult to spot a child. We recommend bright and contrasting colors such as neon yellow, orange, pink, and bright red.” The goal is to pick colors that are bright, visible, and easy to spot.
