Coldplay are finally making their way to ‘American Idol,’ but luckily won’t have to face the judgement of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler. The Britpop mainstays will perform during a results show next month.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Coldplay will appear on the May 3 edition of ‘American Idol.’ The episode will air at 8PM EST on Fox. The band tweeted that they will play two songs, most likely tracks from their latest album ‘Mylo Xyloto.’ They will follow in the footsteps of previous ‘Idol’ guest performers like Lana Del Rey and Nicki Minaj.

As previously reported, Coldplay are getting ready to release their new single ‘Princess of China,’ which features pop superstar Rihanna. Footage of a music video was shown earlier this month at a Coldplay show in Edmonton, Canada. Frontman Chris Martin recalls nervously asking the singer if she wanted to work together.

“It took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her,” Martin admitted. “We did a show in Las Vegas and I met her and said, ‘Do you think there’s any chance?’ I was very Hugh Grant-like and spluttering about it.”

Coldplay are currently on tour in North America but will then head overseas starting May 18 in Porto, Portugal. The group will return to the States June 22-23 with back-to-back shows in Dallas, Texas.
