“Day Without A Woman” Strike Shuts Down Schools Across The Country
Today is International Women's Day. All around the world, women are speaking out and protesting against gender inequality. Fox News is reporting that the "Day Without A Woman" protest organizers are urging working women to stay at home. On Monday, schools in Virginia, North Carolina, and New York announced they are canceling classes in anticipation of the event. In fact, one school district in Virginia had more than 300 staff members request a day off.
Some critics are claiming that this protest was organized as a response to the election of Donald Trump, and is designed to denounce his presidency. Some organizers flatly deny this, claiming the demonstration is more "Pro-woman" than "Anti-Trump."
Louisiana is not exempt from this international phenomenon, a strike has been called for in by the Louisiana Socialist Network and other groups centered in New Orleans as well. At this time, no schools in Louisiana have announced a closure.
