Are we really that close to the Defenders of Liberty Air Show already?

I get my ability to plan ahead from my mother. Of course, she would have already planned out the packed lunch we'd be taking to this year's air show. The Defenders of Liberty Air Show returns to Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana the weekend of May 6 and 7. As always, this event is sure to leave you staring, mouth agape. Oh, and it's free to attend.

It's tradition around the Ark-La-Tex since 1933.

From historical military aircraft to the newest hot shots, civilian dazzlers and static displays galore, this is by far my favorite event that happens each year. Gates will open at 9 a.m. on both days with the show kicking off at 11 a.m. on Barksdale Air Force Base. Parking and admission are both free. Visitors will be able to enter through North Gate in Bossier and West Gate in Shreveport.

This year's main even will be the Navy Blue Angels.

In addition, we'll see several heavy hitters hit the sky. One of my favorites, the B-29 Superfortress, will make an appearance. I believe this flew in the Heritage Flight last year with the B-52. Correct me if I am wrong, I couldn't really see through my tears. We'll also see some old favorites like the B-17 Flying Fortress, and B-25 "Special Delivery", and the B-52's friends the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit.

See a complete list of performers (along with photos) here and the list of static displays on the flight line here.

It's never too early to start making plans to attend.
