East Texans Calling For High School Named After Robert E. Lee To Be Renamed
Next Monday a group has announced they'll be meeting with the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees to demand the renaming of Robert E Lee High School. They've created a Facebook page to encourage others to join them Monday Night.
"We are a good and godly people in Tyler, Texas that need to get the faithfulness to Christ to extend past Sunday mornings in our racially divided churches and actually make an impact in our city throughout the week." -DG Montalvo
DG Montalvo is one of the ones calling for the school to be renamed which he says is a step in the right direction for healing the racial divide in our country. The school has been named after the Confederate General since 1958 but those in favor of the change say it's past time.
What do you think?
If you're interested in going to the meeting it'll be Monday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Davis Conference Room at the Jim Plyler Instructional Complex, 807 W. Glenwood Blvd in Tyler.
A group fighting to keep the name has also been formed which you can see HERE!
