I have to admit, I get 'lost in a rabbit hole' when I start watching videos of the underdogs on America's Got Talent, or Britain's Got Talent.  I could watch today the videos like the one of Paul Potts, the 'carphone salesman' who sang the opera piece Nessun Dorma like he'd been singing it all his life.

Or Jonathan & Charlotte, the then 16 & 17 year olds who combined pop-style singing with opera that took them all the way to the finals.

And of course, who could ever forget the firecracker from Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland, Susan Boyle, who's version of 'I Dreamed a Dream' from Les Miserables that schocked the judges and brought down the house.

Like I said... I've seen everyone of these countless times. And I could watch these again today, and I will cry again.  Another story that has captured the hearts of America is Archie Williams.  He was wrongfully convicted and spent 36 years in Angola for 'somebody else's crime.'  Williams appeared on America's Got Talent in 2020 and shared his story, then performed Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me."

“Elton John called me with tears in his eyes, and I actually at the time didn’t I didn’t know it was him until my family told me that was Elton John,” said Williams.

Williams would watch AGT during his time in Angola, and dreamed about being a contestant. His dream came true after spending more than half his life behind bars, and his story of redemption is an inspiration to millions.

“If you keep the faith, it will work out. God has a purpose for all of our lives, that’s why we are right now today,” said Williams.

That inspiration even reached Simon Cowell, who has since become a spokeperson for The Innocence Project, the organization that helped free Williams. Williams, who is from Baton Rouge, is also focused on helping others who are wrongfully convicted.

“I’m trying to start a program where I can help guys who are innocent in prison,” said Williams.

Williams will compete in tonight's America's Got Talent on NBC.
