Too Far? LA School Leader Busted for Taping Students’ Mouths Shut
When I first learned that an educator in Slidell, Louisiana was in hot water over discipline issues - I immediately assumed that it was one of those "Back in my day," type-scenarios. Not that it excuses being cruel to kids, but there was a time when every teacher had a paddle and wasn't afraid to use it. This, unfortunately, goes beyond that. If the allegations are true, Pastor John Raymond may lose more than his teaching credentials.
Pastor Raymond Was Arrested on 3 Counts of "Cruelty to Juveniles"
According to the bombshell report from WHNT, Pastor Raymond was arrested late last week and charged with three counts of cruelty to juveniles. The details of the arrest claim that on March the 18th, several students were removed from their class for excessive talking.
Pastor Raymond is Also the Head Master of a Very Popular Louisiana Christian Academy
Allegedly Raymond, Head Master of the prestigious Lakeside Christian Academy, became so enraged that he marched the talkative teens to his office where he proceeded to tape their mouths shut with packing tape. Those students were reportedly forced to return to class for 45 minutes before another administrator noticed and attempted to remove the tape.
These Louisiana Christian Academy Students Were Having Difficulty Breathing
Unfortunately, that proved to be very painful as the tape was allegedly wrapped all the way around the head. Some of the students were even complaining that they were having difficulty breathing. Ultimately, the tape had to be removed from the teens' hair with scissors. All 3 reported victims were 13-years-old.
Pastor John Raymond Says Those Students Were Bullying the Teacher
According to a report from the New York Post, Raymond admits that he taped the students mouths shut - but says he did so because the students were bullying the teacher. According to the statement he released yesterday, the administrator and former Survivor contestant claimed that he only used scotch tape and at no time did he ever "wrap the tape around someone's head."
After Louisiana Christian Academy Started Complaining, the Slidell, Louisiana PD Was Called in
After several parents complained, Slidell police were called and a formal investigation was launched prompting the arrest of Pastor John Raymond. He is currently being held in the St. Tammany Parish jail.
