Christmas Day

Thanks to your generosity, homeless people in Shreveport were able to enjoy Christmas dinner and feed their pets!

We put the call out Monday, December 16th, and you came through in a big way! Thanks to your donations, both Bountiful Table and Nova's Heart ministries, were able to provide a traditional Christmas dinner to those less fortunate in our area and provide food for their pets Christmas day behind First United Methodist Church in downtown Shreveport.

Landers Dodge graciously donated pies for the dinner. They also served as a drop off location for donations. In all, 28 pounds of turkey were given, as well as gallons of cranberry sauce, pans of dressing, etc... and all of that food was then prepared and served by Bountiful Table, an organization that feeds our area homeless on a weekly basis. Chef Pat Dillahunty takes his mission seriously and has been at the helm of this ministry for years... all the way back to when he was the Executive Chef at the Shreveport Country Club! I had the opportunity to visit with Chef Pat Wednesday and he let me know that he and his organization, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, are looking for a new kitchen to use on a weekly basis. If you know of a space that can house 4-5 extra freezers and has the kitchen space needed to prepare large meals, he'd love to hear from you!

Nova's Heart is another local ministry and 501(c)3 non profit organization that helps to provide food, blankets, toys, beds, treats and even veterinary care for the pets of folks in need... whether they are homeless or facing financial difficulty. Once again, thanks to your generosity, over 1,000 pounds of dry pet food was donated, a ton of wet food for older animals, beds, blankets, pet clothing and even 100+ pounds of treats were collected in just ten days. Two local teens, Katie Batts and Amy Sullivan, made up 80 care packages for each of those in need, containing everything from hygiene products to snacks. We are truly grateful and blown away by your giving hearts!

We really have to recognize Dave and Tresa Frye for working to spearhead this project. They've been helping to feed the homeless and their pets at Christmas for five years now and I'm personally grateful for having been allowed to be a part of this wonderful gift to our community. Thank you to everyone at Landers Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram for their giving hearts, all of the volunteers who showed up to serve, taking time away from their families, as well as Chef Pat and his Bountiful Table team and Loraine Guererrero and the crew from Nova's Heart. May He bless you all abundantly!
