NWS Warns Shreveport That the Heat Index is About to Hit 100

Get ready for things to get super uncomfortable, super early this year. The National Weather Service in Shreveport has advised the Ark-La-Tex that there is a high probability (they say better than a 60% chance) that we will see air temperatures climb above 90 degrees next week.

Not only that, but humidity will also build between Monday and Thursday.

That means the heat index will be rising as well. With the National Weather Service suggesting it could carry all the way to the 100 degree mark. Something that even the National Weather Service notes is rare for this time of the year.

This is probably just the start for hot temps in Louisiana this year. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says that Louisiana has a 40% to 50% chance of having a hotter than normal summer this year. Areas of Texas are looking a little worse, with some spots given a better-than-50% chance of having an above normal summer.

But it will be hard to beat last year's record breaking summer. It wasn't just the heat index that was consistently breaking the 100 degree mark last year. Air temperatures were exceeding 100 regularly, which pushed the heat index to dangerous territory.

NOAA indicates that the above average temps won't end with the summer either. Their projection for the fall in Louisiana calls for the same 40% to 50% chance of temperatures being hotter than average.

As far as their precipitation forecasts, NOAA says there is "equal chances" of an above or below average amount of rainfall in the summer and fall months.
