LAFAYETTE, La. (KMDL-FM) - Volunteers from The United Cajun Navy have mobilized to assist in the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie. The organization confirmed they are joining search efforts in the Tucson, Arizona area.

What the Cajun Navy Is Doing

The United Cajun Navy from right here in Acadiana announced that a strike team is on the way to Arizona, where teams will begin ground searches this week. Their plan includes the use of scent-tracking dogs and other trained personnel to comb challenging terrain near Guthrie’s last known location.

The United Cajun Navy say they initially offered help weeks ago to federal and local authorities but were informed their assistance wasn’t needed at that time. They have remained prepared and welcomed the recent invitation from Guthrie’s family to participate.
