The Miss Louisiana Organization will crown a new queen on June 16. However, there won't be a pageant this year.

Exactly how will they be able to do such a thing with no new contestants?

Well, back in May, the Miss America Organization announced that the national competition and all state-level events would be canceled in 2020. They gave queens the option to continue their contracts for another year.

Miss Louisiana 2019, Meagan Crews, has decided not to return as queen and instead will continue her education at the University of Kentucky this fall.

So, that opens the door for Miss Louisiana 2019 runner-up, Courtney Hammons, to assume the title as Miss Louisiana 2020.

Hammons is currently working on her master's degree at Louisiana Tech University with plans to become a dietician.

While Hammons is disappointed she won't be able to compete for Miss America, she knows the year she has as Miss Louisiana will give her more time to serve the state.

She posted the following on Facebook:

Last year, when Meagan Crews and I were the last two standing on the Miss Louisiana stage, I would have never believed I would become Miss Louisiana in this way: during a pandemic with so much uncertainty. However, I realize the UNIQUE opportunity I've been given to serve my state during the most challenging year of my lifetime. Needless to say, I am READY to be a servant-leader this year. I am EXCITED to represent EVERY Louisianan. I am ENCOURAGED because, let's be honest, the Lord is FAITHFUL!

There will be a crowning ceremony on June 16 at 3:00 pm at the W.L. "Jack" Howard Theatre Lobby at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe.
