The list of things that have been closed, cancelled, postponed, rescheduled, or otherwise messed up by the Coronavirus pandemic crisis is massive - and it's getting longer everyday.  The latest event to fall to our new "normal' is the Miss Louisiana Pageant.

Upon hearing the decision that the 2020 Miss America pageant will not be held this year, organizers with the Miss Louisiana and the Miss Louisiana’s Outstanding Teen Competition will also be taking a year off.  Executive director of the pageants Dewana Little posted a message to all of the supporters and fans of the 99 year old competition on the official Miss Louisiana website explaining the revised schedule and the reasoning behind the decision.

The organization will instead take the year to focus on volunteering and community-minded projects as they prepare for a huge celebration - the pageants centennial celebration (100 years) is set for 2021.  No word on if this makes all of the winners from last year's competition the default winner for 2020, or if no official winner's name will be enshrined in the record books.

I, for one, don't mind if Bossier City's Meagan Crews is the only Miss Louisiana listed with a 2 year reign According to their website, the organization provided "$62,500 in cash scholarships and made available over $500,000 in in-kind scholarships," last year alone.  It is unclear whether or not those scholarships and awards would be handed out in 2020.
