LHSAA Hopeful for a Shorter Football Season
Would you rather have a little less high school football or no high school football at all?
Any fan of prep football would certainly choose the first option. Luckily, the LHSAA is hopeful for a shortened football season this year. Recently, the LHSAA sent a letter to schools, student-athletes, and parents, informing them of another delay to the potential start of the high school football season, and all other fall sports. Their goal, as of now, is to kick everything off for fall athletics on October 8th. That's significantly later than usual, but then again, this is possibly the most unusual year in our existence.

Now, we have a little more news for specifically high school football from the LHSAA. Executive director for LHSAA, Eddie Bonine, says he hopes for 6-to-8 games for the regular season. Unfortunately for those hoping for the longer season, it may not be possible if the state championship games are played in the Superdome per usual. With a longer season, the state championship games would likely conflict with major events held in the arena, such as the Sugar Bowl and New Orleans Bowl.
If the schedule stays the way it is in regards to state championships, and the season starting on October 8th, that would leave schools with only six regular-season games.
Granted, I think we all would be pleased with six regular-season games if the other option is no high school football at all.
Still, the high school football season essentially remains in the hands of Governor John Bel Edwards, as the season cannot start unless our state moves into Phase Three.
