Local Law Enforcement Agencies Join Forces to Hold DWI Checkpoint
The Shreveport Police Department has teamed up with the Caddo Sheriff's Office and Louisiana State Police to hold a DWI checkpoint tonight at an undisclosed location in west Shreveport, LA.
Unfortunately, Mardi Gras season is here and it's a time when a lot of people tend to overindulge in alcohol. Remember, it's never okay to drink and drive. Make sure before you start your celebrations that you have a sober driver lined up or a ridesharing app ready to go on your phone.
The Shreveport Police Department’s Field Services Bureau has scheduled a DWI checkpoint starting tonight, Friday, January 27, 2023, at 10 pm and running through Saturday morning, January 28, 2023, at 4 am at an undisclosed location in west Shreveport. The campaign is a concerted effort to get impaired drivers off our roads and protect Louisiana families from the danger of drunk drivers. However, while they're targeting impaired driving, the checkpoint will not be limited to any one offense.
In addition to the Shreveport Police Department's Field Services Bureau, the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Louisiana State Police will also be on hand to assist this evening. Drivers who encounter the checkpoint can expect to be briefly stopped by law enforcement officers.
The funds to conduct the sobriety checkpoint are thanks to a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for DWI Enforcement.
Citizens are always encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers. The Shreveport Police Department can be reached by calling (318) 673-7300 or 911 in case of emergency.
