Bayou Beef Bust: Louisiana Officers Recover $1500 in Meat
Everyone in Louisiana knows that a good Cajun meal usually has some meat in it, but over 25 lbs. of meat might be a little overboard. Officers in Louisiana just recovered over $1,500 worth of stolen steaks and brisket that were allegedly taken from a local Walmart in Slidell, LA. This significant haul of prime cuts has been seized by police so it can be returned to its rightful place (if it's still good by then).
The Biggest Beef Bust
Officers of the Slidell Police Department were dumbfounded when, during a normal traffic stop for a busted brake light, they discovered that the two alleged thieves were traveling with over $1,500 worth of USDA ribeye steaks, beef brisket, and a few other snacks.
Slidell PD made a Facebook post and retold the story of what happened after they pulled over the culprits. The two officers pulled over a truck after noticing the brake light was out. Once the truck had been pulled over, the police noticed how nervous the two seemed, but there was no evidence of drugs in the car or any reason to suspect the two to be driving under the influence.
A brief search of the vehicle found and busted the massive mountain of meat. According to Slidell PD, the two had just finished looting a store and had been successful up until one broken light managed to shine a light on them.
A Maybe Not So Happy Ever After
The meat was returned to Slidell's Walmart, according to Slidell PD on Facebook. Even though the day was saved, Walmart still took a loss because the meat was sold at a 50% discount, likely because of its age and freshness.
