Louisiana is currently experiencing a surge in reported cases of the Flu.  Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina are leading the nation when it comes to the number of people infected with influenza - according to the Centers for Disease Control.  According to the CDC's interactive map, the Bayou State's Flu infection status is currently "widespread."  If you would like to look at the detailed Flu and ILI (Influenza Like Illness) information that the CDC has complied for our fair state, click here.

The best way to avoid getting the Flu this year is to get the vaccine, and to use preventative measures like: frequent and effective hand washing, covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing, staying away from the infected, and sanitizing surfaces with a disinfectant like bleach or Lysol.  If you do happen to contract the disease, see a doctor right away.  You may think you're tough, but take care: the CDC reports that 36,000 people die every year from Flu-related illnesses.
