Louisiana film officials say the Pelican State is being recognized as a worldwide top production destination.

Louisiana Entertainment Executive Director Chris Stelly said Louisiana had multiple Golden Globe-nominated films filmed in the state.

"We had Dallas Buyers Club, which Matthew McConaughey won best actor and Jared Leto won best supporting actor," said Stelly.  "That was a film that was shot here."

The money isn't bad either.  Stelly told the Louisiana Radio Network over $1 billion in business sales were generated in Louisiana because of the film industry according to an economic impact study.  The business brought to the state helped bring in more jobs.

"It's supported over 14,000 jobs on the film side based upon the certified spending in calendar year 2012," noted Stelly.

Stelly added that tax credits have been a major draw for the film industry.  Those credits can be used for motion pictures, digital interactive media, sound recording, and live performances.

Louisiana's infrastructure has played a role, too.

"Louisiana has done really well, and we have done really well, in building up the necessary infrastructure and crew base so that we can support motion picture production in this state," said Stelly.
