Louisiana’s Free Fishing Weekend and Prizes for Tagged Catfish
Every year, Louisianians get the opportunity to fish for a full weekend on any of Louisiana's public waters, with absolutely no license requirements. And that weekend is upon us!
This Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and 9, in celebration of Louisiana's "Free Fishing Weekend", the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is offering a unique, incentive-based fishing experience with their "Get and Fish! Weekend Derby."
To encourage anglers to take advantage of the free fishing weekend, LDWF has tagged a number of catfish at a number of "LDWF Get Out and Fish!" ponds across Louisiana. Here in our neck of the woods that includes Turner's Pond in Minden, Elmore D. Mayfield Park in Ruston and Kiroli Park in West Monroe.
When an angler catches on the these tagged channel catfish, that person is immediately eligible for a prize sponsored by Berkley and Louisiana Fish Fry!

With the exception of free fishing weekend, anglers 16 and older must possess a Louisiana fishing license when fishing in any Louisiana public waters. Licenses are available for purchase online at https://la-web.s3licensing.com/.
