Former LSU Shreveport Instructor Appears in New Superman Trailer
Movie and comic book fans across Louisiana got a treat this morning, as a teaser trailer for the next Superman film was released online. This movie will be the first Superman film in the new DC Comic Book movie universe being established by acclaimed director James Gunn.
Not only is Gunn the Producer, Writer, and Director on this new Superman movie, he is the Co-chairman and Co-CEO of DC Studios. So this launch isn't just for his movie, its for his entire studio.
Fans are sharing a lot of excitement over the premiere of the footage, and fans in Louisiana have a little extra reason to celebrate it. Because there's a Louisiana native that appears in the trailer. Someone who will be an integral part of this Superman's legacy. Let's see if you can catch him in the trailer...and if you miss it, we will explain below...
Did you catch him? There was an Emmy Award winning actor from Louisiana mixed into that teaser trailer. Someone who will be playing one of the most important parts of Superman's origin story. We're talking about Pruitt Taylor Vince!
Pruitt is originally from Baton Rouge, the state of Louisiana has been intertwined through his fascinating career, including a stint as an instructor at LSU-Shreveport. Back in the day, Pruitt served as an Artist in Residence at LSUS, helping countless students pursue the arts.
In this new Superman universe, Pruitt will be playing Jonathan Kent, Superman's "dad".
For those who aren't familiar with Superman lore, here's a "spoiler alert"...Superman isn't from Earth. He's an alien that crashed onto the planet as a baby. He was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent, who raised him on their farm in Smallville, Kansas. They treated Superman, or Clark Kent, as their own son.
The role of Jonathan Kent has been played previously in the film franchises by actors Glenn Ford and Kevin Costner.
Pruitt is a legit Louisiana film icon. According to the legend, Pruitt wasn’t even supposed to pursue acting, until a mistake in his high school registration placed him into an acting class. But that ‘mistake’ changed everything.
Pruitt has been in Academy Award winning films like Mississippi Burning and JFK, and even won his own Emmy Award in 1997 for his work as serial killer Clifford Banks in the TV show Murder One.
Over his career, Pruitt has also found opportunities to take part in large-scale entertainment work too. Like starring opposite Keanu Reeves in the comic book film Constantine. He’s also been a regular on TV series like Deadwood, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Heroes: Reborn, and The Mentalist.
One of him more memorable characters was Gerry Schnauz in the X-Files episode "Unruhe". The episode was written by Vince Gilligan (who would go on to create Breaking Bad) and is recognized as one of the best episodes of the X-Files during the show's incredible run.
