Mike Johnson: Zelenskyy Needs to “Come to His Senses”
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) gave his rather bleak input on the Ukraine-Russia peace talks after President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance's meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Speaker Johnson Calls For Resignation
Friday saw the Ukrainian President visit the White House to discuss a mineral rights agreement that would have allowed the United States to access Ukraine's natural mineral resources to pay back the military aid the US has provided to Ukraine since the beginning of Russia's offense on the border.
The talks ended on Friday with no deal being signed and tension rising. After the meeting ended with no deal signed, all parties involved were clearly upset at the outcome, including House Speaker Mike Johnson.
In an interview with "Meet the Press" on Sunday Johnson said Ukrainian President Zelenskyy "needs to come to his senses and come back to the table in gratitude, or else someone else needs to lead the country to do that."
Multiple Officials Call For Zelenskyy's Resignation
Speaker Johnson was not alone, fellow Republican Lindsey Graham was among those who believed the fallout of the White House talks was deserving of the Ukrainian's resignation. President Zelenskyy in an interview was asked about the comments from those who called for his resignation and said "I can give [Graham] Ukrainian citizenship, then his voice will gain weight."
Graham shot back on X, formerly Twitter, declaring that there is currently a lack of public representation within the Mariinskyi Palace, stating "Unfortunately, until there is an election, no one has a voice in Ukraine."
