The United States Postal Service did not deliver mail on Thursday, January 9th. President Joe Biden declared a National Day of Observance to honor the late former President Jimmy Carter.

Former president Jimmy Carter died on December 29th at the age of 100. Carter was the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Before he became the Commander-in-Chief, Carter served as the 76th governor of Georgia from 1971 to 1975 and in the Georgia State Senate from 1963 to 1967.

Since President Biden declared January 9th as a National Day of Mourning, The Postal Service announced that they will suspend regular mail delivery, retail services, and office activity on January 9th. "There will be limited package delivery service on that day to ensure the organization does not experience any negative impacts to its package delivery operations."

 

Regular activities and service will resume on Friday.
