The Secretary of Health and Human Services just stopped by the Bayou State to make waves with the Make America Healthy Again program. The Secretary has signed a bill alongside Gov. Landry that aims to make sure all Louisianians know the risks associated with what they're eating.

RFK Jr. has been on a public crusade against the food industry since he took his position in President Trump's cabinet. A new bill he signed in Louisiana carries out that same goal. SB14 will create a list of artificial colors, additives, and banned chemicals that will now legally need to be displayed with a warning label.

Some of the included chemicals are:

  • Certified food colors by the United States Food and Drug 14 Administration.
  • Aspartame.
  • Bleached flour.
  • Blue dye 1 (CAS 3844-45-9).
  • Blue dye 2 (CAS 860-22-0).
  • Citrus red dye 2 (CAS 6358-53-8).
  • Green dye 3 (CAS 2353-45-9).
  • Red dye 3 (CAS 16423-68-0).
  • Red dye 4 (CAS 4548-53-2).
  • Red dye 40 (CAS 25956-17-6).
  • Yellow dye 5 (CAS 1934-21-0).
  • Yellow dye 6 (CAS 2783-94-0).

The bill has been signed by Governor Landry and will cause labeling to go into effect starting in 2028. The labels will be done with QR codes. The bill also prohibits a long list of ingredients from being included in any foods or products sold in schools. The full list of ingredients on both lists can be found here.

Gov. Landry said at a press conference that, "Bans harmful artificial dyes and additives and encourages our schools and government to purchase from locally produced farmers and growers."

The signing of this bill puts Louisiana ahead on RFK Jr's MAHA agenda, which makes sense because the Bayou state regularly ranks as one of the most obese states in the union.
