The roads of Shreveport and Bossier City can be utterly infuriating, and this is made even worse by the construction projects occurring between the two cities. Most of the construction has been on the Bossier side, but new bridges, upgraded roads, and water infrastructure upgrades have left both cities abuzz with activity. So what are your tax dollars up to in the SBC right now?

Jimmie Davis Bridge: A Progress Through Pain

The southmost bridge connecting Shreveport and Bossier across the Red River has been getting a makeover for about a year at this point. The Jimmie Davis Bridge is getting a four-lane makeover with a hefty price tag of $360 million.

While the bridge project is currently underway, the roadways around the Jimmie Davis bridge have been littered with traffic cones and "Lane Closed" signs, making the area a headache to drive through. To make the construction worse, it has an estimated completion date of late 2027. The only saving grace when driving through the construction is the comfort that the new bridge won't be as old and scary to drive over.

I-20 Rehab Nears the Finish Line

The biggest construction headache for over a year in the SBC metro has been the I-20 rehabilitation project. With nearly 100,000 cars passing through the I-20 corridor in Bossier City, the road had taken a lot of beatings over the decades it served the city, but in 2023, a project was greenlit to repave the road, which still had portions of the original pavement from the 1960s.

The project is closer to being completed, the Industrial Drive ramps in Bossier City have finally been reopened, but the Airline Drive ramps have been closed. With a pricetag of $121 million, the DOTD estimates the project should be done by the early months of 2026.

Shreveport's Water Upgrades

The City of Shreveport has also been hard at work with construction and rehabilitation projects to fix the City's F-grade water quality rating from the state health department. Taxpayers in Shreveport can rejoice in knowing that the water and sewer pipes under our feet are being upgraded with millions of dollars in project funding to turn around the odd-tasting water we're all tired of.
