The Good News: The Mall Turtles Were Rescued. The Bad News? The Vet Bill
The entire Shreveport community recently rallied behind a local animal rescue for a different kind of pet: turtles. While the large turtle enclosure at Mall St. Vincent may look normal to the average eye, one local man, Steven from Steve's Snaketuary, made it his mission to save the reptiles from what he calls "neglect." Once the Snaketuary team raised public concern, the community quickly rallied, and the good news is that their efforts were successful. Now, however, the team is facing a hefty veterinary bill.
For those who may have missed the turtle Shreveport saga, here’s a quick rundown. Steven told K945 he had been contacted by concerned employees and citizens for over a year regarding the turtles' condition. He claims he repeatedly reached out to previous management but was consistently given the "run-around," leading him to believe the situation was a serious concern with no end in sight. Luckily, after Steven went public with a video outlining his concerns on YouTube, he finally got the attention of the new management at the Shreveport mall.
Steven told K945 that his goal from the start was to simply help the turtles, and his veterinarian was ready to take them in for care. Following a productive meeting with the new mall management, all the turtles were released to Snaketuary. While the rescue was a success, the immediate medical needs of the turtles have created significant veterinary bills.
“I simply want to help out as much as possible,” Steven said, emphasizing his desire to work with the mall. “I don't want to bash the mall, especially with new management in place. I just want to help them.”
Now that the rescue is complete and the team at the mall has teamed up with Snaketuary, several turtles need our help to get back to full health.
