Shreveport Man Faces Charges After Leading Authorities on Pursuit
A Shreveport man was arrested and faces multiple charges, including battery of an officer, after leading deputies on a pursuit in south Caddo Parish Tuesday afternoon.
The chase began just after 12:00 PM Tuesday afternoon when the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a homeowner who said he caught a man stealing a welding machine and trailer from his residence. The victim reportedly tried to stop the suspect from leaving, but the suspect rammed the homeowner’s vehicle with his truck and fled.
A press release from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office tells us what happened next:
Caddo Sheriff’s Cpl. Michael Page was in the area and spotted the suspect on Wallace Lake Road. Page pursued the suspect to Hemperley and Linwood where the suspect abandoned his vehicle with two flat front tires. The suspect then fled on foot, but was quickly spotted by Cpl. Gary Pace and Sr. Deputy John Berry as he jumped several fences in an attempt to avoid capture. He was taken into custody by the deputies as he after breaking into a car in the 9500 block of Bonnydune.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jessie Taylor is to be booked into the Caddo Correctional Center for felony theft, aggravated battery, aggravated flight, resisting an officer, driving under suspension, and burglary. On top of those charges, Atkins will be charged with battery on an officer for biting a Shreveport Police officer during his arrest.
